The sugar scoop stern is equipped with a swim ladder for easy boarding from the water.

Caelestis Pronunciation (KAI-LEHSTIHS)

Caelestis is Latin, meaning “heavenly, coming from the sky, the blue color of the sky”. It's an appropriate name for a sailing vessel located in the Hawaiian Islands because by observing the stars, the winds and the shape of ocean swells, Polynesian explorers navigated for thousands of miles without charts or instruments.  They sailed against prevailing winds and currents aboard double canoes to settle the Hawaiian Islands.  Comparatively, while early Polynesian explorers were leaving the sight of land in their wake, Greek mariners stayed close to the comfort of the coastlines.

Captain Matt

Captain Matt is from the great "Show Me State" of Missouri.

His dreams of sailing the Hawaiian tropical paradise began in high school.  In 1995, he joined the Navy Nurse Corp in San Diego where his passion for sailing began to take shape.  As they say, the rest is history and he's been sailing the Pacific Ocean since 1996, including the Hawaiian Islands since 2012.

When asked the question "What brought you to Hawaii?", Captain Matt always displays a smile and shaka and answers, "The wind!"  He arrived the same way the Polynesians did centuries ago.

His sailing resume surpasses 15,000 nautical miles, has completed multiple transpacific crossings and sailed to the most remote places in the Pacific Ocean including Tarawa, Abemama and Palmyra.

Matt is very knowledgeable about sailing the Hawaiian Islands.  He loves to compliment each charter with a touch of Hawaiian Island history and how the islands were formed many years ago by Pele, the goddess of volcanoes and fire.
